5 tips before visiting Cairo

  • Cairo has become very touristic and so over time has become more lenient in its views or dressing modestly with people frequently wearing shorts and t-shirts around the most popular sights. With that being said be as respectful as possible around the more religious sights such as mosques especially by taking off your shoes
  • Always double check you are getting in the correct Uber. Taxis drivers will see you waiting and say anything they can to get you in their taxis rather than someone else’s. Check the license plate just to be safe.
  • Plan your trip around the weather April – October can be unbearably hot. even in winter aim to have a break from exploring during the hottest hours of the day.
  • Ask local where is good to eat – food hygiene can be a real issue with less regulations than in the west
  •  Learn some basic phrases in Arabic – English is widely spoken but not by everyone and so its nice to know the basics just in case. Using a little Arabic can even help to reduce the price of goods when haggling
