Taxi drivers will try to overcharge you as they think you wont know the going rate and may even change how much they ask for when you arrive at your destination. Using Uber is almost always cheaper and saves any potential issues with the language barrier
Learn to negotiate
Egypt is a country where almost nothing has a fixed price and sellers will start their offering as high as they think they can get away with. Some good bartering can drop this price to about half of what they first offer and even then you’ll likely pay double the rate they would charge a local
Bring Student ID
Entry to almost any of the tourist attractions is 50% off with any valid student ID
Stay in Zamelek or downtown Cairo
Accommodation within view of the pyramids means premium rates and you’re on the outskirts meaning more money spent in taxis going to see everything else in the city
Have a Revolut card
