How to save Money in Jordan

The Jordan pass

Buying the Jordan pass gives you free entry to almost anything in Jordan; including the country itself. You can buy it online for 75 JOD before you arrive in Jordan and it waives your need to pay for a visa upon arrival (usually 45JOD) and it gives you entry to Petra (55 JOD). Meaning if this is all you planned to do in Jordan you would already be saving 15 JOD and the time buying a visa and ticket. In addition to this the Jordan pass gives free entry to 40 other attractions across Jordan including Wadi Rum, the Amman citadel and the Jordan museum.

Learn to negotiate

Jordan is a country where almost nothing has a fixed price and if you’re good enough and persistent you can frequently get 30-50% off the price of everything from street food to souvenirs and tours.

Stay in wadi Rum

A lot of accommodation in Wadi Rum comes with tours included or at a discounted rate. Full day tours can cost upwards of 70 JOD and be quite rigid in how they operate. Getting a tour from your accommodation is not only cheaper but is far more flexible with timings and what you want to see.

Withdraw money in large amounts

The majority of businesses in Jordan still do not accept card payments and when they do it is usually for a fee. Similarly withdrawing money from ATMs usually charges a fee. To minimize the fees you pay withdraw as much money as you think you will spend for the whole trip in one go. This can also help you budget as you can only spend the cash you have. In general Arab bank ATMs tend to have the lowest fees and highest withdrawal limits but this varies by location so research the area around where you are staying.

Have a Revolut card

Revolut is an international card with some of the best exchange rates and no fees on spending or withdrawing money abroad. This saves you money in several ways and not only works in Jordan but the vast majority of the world!
